The first mobile network in Nigeria to make call is Econet. For long now people believed that the first mobile phone to make call in Nigeria was MTN, but then that is just a presumed judgement due to MTN’s popularity in Nigeria.
According to totaltele.com, Econet was the first in the race to launch Nigeria GSM after it announced 3 days before the actual kick-off date given to the then three licenced operators including MTN.

“Econet Wireless Nigeria said it was launching the telecoms-starved country’s first GSM network Monday, three days before the deadline for the start of services by three licensed operators. “This is not just about putting together a network, this is about building a nation,” Econet Nigeria’s chief executive officer Zachary Wazara told a news conference.” – It read.
After several search by online users to discover the first mobile network in Nigeria it was discovered that Econet went ahead of others.
The isssue at hand now why many argue that MTN is the first mobile network in Nigeria is because econet is no more in existence.

Econet being the first mobile network in Nigeria could not maintain its stand in the competetion market and it had to give way for others. MTN then took full swing to dominate the GSM world in Nigeria which gained them much customers as of then and they have stood to maintan the largest number of customers till date but the does not still make them the first mobile network in Nigeria. We could say the are the largest mobile network in Nigeria.
Though Glo was the first to intruduce per second call in Nigeria and other GSM companies had to quee in. At the moment, Glo also has proven to be the Grand masters of data in Nigeria as they give twice data of what other network offers for the same price.
